Treasurer, Green Oak Township
treasurer@greenoaktwp.com
The Treasurer of Green Oak Township is an elected position as is the Supervisor and Clerk. Most of the duties for the Treasurer's position are regulated and dictated by the State of Michigan. The Township Treasurer's Statutory Duties are to collect real and personal property taxes, administer special assessment districts (S.A.D.), issue dog licenses, keep an account of township receipts (revenues) and expenditures, issue township checks, deposit township revenues in approved depositories, invest township funds in approved investment vehicles, collect delinquent personal property tax, be responsible for jeopardy assessments in collecting property tax, and to collect mobile home specific taxes. The Treasurer must post a surety bond.

In addition the Treasurer must appoint a Deputy Treasurer. The Deputy Treasurer must also be bonded. Deputy township officials are authorized to act as the elected official in the event of the official's absence, sickness, death or other disability. A deputy may not, however, vote as a member of the township board. With the official's approval and the consent of the township board, a deputy may assist the elected official at any additional times agreed to by the board and the official. Deputies are not required to be residents of the township, and may be paid compensation as determined by the township board.

                                     PAYMENT RECOMMENDATIONS DUE TO COVID-19

Contactless payment options are recommended:  Consider using mail (we do not take postmarks so watch your mail time), our drop box (please use only checks or money orders when using the drop box) in the front entrance, online credit card or E-Check payments through our web site.  There are fees associated with the credit card and E-Check options.  If you would like a receipt, please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.  If you are an at-risk person, perhaps you can have a neighbor drop off your payment for you.

Checks and Cash:  We recommend that you fill your your check before you enter the office.  We must go by the written portion of the check so make sure it matches the dollar amount required.  Make checks payable to "Green Oak Charter Township" and include your current telephone number and parcel number of the property (i.e. 4716-xx-xxx-xxx).

When paying in cash, it is more important than ever to pay with smaller denomination bills or the exact amount as the office keeps minimal change on hand for security reasons.  We would like to keep cash handling to a minimum.

Any payment made after 5:00 p.m. will be applied the next business day.  The Treasurer takes partial payments for taxes.  Any amount not paid by the due date will go delinquent and does incur penalties and interest.  If you have any questions regarding the amount due, please call the office at 810-231-1333 (Treasurer's Office).

                                                                     What's New for 2021?

If you order on-line, the rabies vaccine will need to be uploaded.  Replacement tags are $5.00.   The fee schedule is as follows:

The County will notify you when your license is due through a postcard.  Once you get the postcard, no not wait.  Any licenses due at the end of the month must be purchased by the end of the month or the late fee will apply.  The township has not charged the late fee in the past.  However, under the new system, the late fee will be assessed since it is required by the County.
